Redisher Woods Balsam Bash

Good Morning

If you fancy doing a bit of quick, easy and important conservation work this weekend then you have an opportunity to help out in Redisher Woods. A Himalayan Balsam Bashing session has been organised by the Friends of Redisher Woods, starting at 1:30pm on Sunday 18th July, on the bridge below the Redisher Lane entrance.  The sessions usually last approximately one and a half hours.

There will be some nettles in the way so have your arms covered and wear some gloves.

Thank you for your support.

Cuppa and a Chat developments

Dear All,

As we are expecting the lock down restrictions to lift later this month, it is time to discuss how we are going to adapt the ‘Cuppa and a Chat’ sessions.

These are going to continue as follows:

  • Thursday afternoons from 2 – 4pm
  • Still 3 volunteers to run each session (making a brew and chatting with visitors)

Things which will change and require further planning:

  • No restriction on numbers so larger room to be arranged
  • Tables and chairs will need to be set out and put away on a weekly basis.  Graham Haworth and Nicky have offered to do this every week but we will need a couple of people to cover when they have holidays, for example.
  • Invitation open to the whole community, this will mean picking up and dropping off residents who may require a lift
  • Once a month we will offer a little more than a chat, some form of entertainment e.g. (The Strummers are happy to play). Even an ‘Afternoon Tea’ is on the cards.

In order to help with the organisation of these sessions we are looking for someone or a team of people who would be willing to work together to do the planning. There are already people willing to give residents a lift to and from the Old School, but this may be something you wish to consider. And of course we have our regular helpers already, but we will need to know how regular you wish to help, weekly, fortnightly, monthly?

If you feel you are able to help in any way please come to a meeting at the Old School on Thursday 15th July at 4pm, just at the end of the weekly Cuppa and a Chat session. If you are unable to attend but would like to help in some way, then please email me your availability and how you wish to help.

Thank you once again for your help over the last four months, I look forward to seeing you next week. If you know of anyone who would like to be part of this volunteer group then please bring them along.

Kind regards,

Julie Southworth

New bench

Great news!

Another bench has been installed in Greenmount Sidings. This one took just an hour to install and then 15 minutes to drink the coffee kindly provided by The Hub.

This is now the fifth bench that we have recently installed, manufactured by the Bury Greenwood Group and paid for by our ongoing fundraising activities and applications.

The next one to do is the revised backed edition which has not yet been built and will be installed opposite the Pre-School garden near to Station Rd.

Please wear clothing and footwear suitable to the conditions, we will be working off the footpaths and potentially in some muddy areas. Over-18s invited to get their Covid jabs now

Dear all

Please see below the latest update on the vaccination program from Bury MBC

Julie Southworth

Dear all,

All over-18s in Bury are being invited to get their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine at upcoming local clinics.

For those over 40, there are two walk-in clinics offering second doses of the AZ vaccine to those who have already had their first AZ jab.

They are:

  • Elizabethan Suite, Bury – Wednesday 16 June, 1.30pm – 6pm. This is for people who had their first AZ jab in the week commencing 19 April or before.
  • Prestwich Walk in-Centre – Thursday 17 June, 8.30am – 6pm. Again, this is for people who had their first AZ jab in the week commencing 19 April or before. As well as walk-in, slots can also be booked at https://nhsburyccg4.nhsbookings.com/v2/#book/service/11/count/1/provider/any/

Ramsbottom is also offering a first dose of AZ to those who haven’t yet taken up their offer – the clinic is on Sunday (20 June) from 8.30am to 1pm. Again, no appointment is needed, but you can also book a slot at https://nhsburyccg.nhsbookings.com/v2/#book/service/11/count/1/provider/any/date/2021-06-20/
