Greenmount Village Community Walking Group are bidding for £2,800.  The project is to help all in the area to “Live Life to the Full” whilst getting healthier as well as helping the planet by promoting all the many activities in Greenmount, indoors and outdoors, restarted after Covid, especially Walking, as Greenmount is the ideal place to be the centre of Bury North Countryside Walks.

The plan is to install a large-scale OS footpath map, of Greenmount and surrounding area, professionally done to include 15 marked circular walking routes, from easy short walks to longer challenging walks starting from Greenmount, which have been created by our village walking group.

We would also like to host an Exhibition in the Community Centre next spring, titled “Live Life to the Full, indoors & outdoors here in Greenmount / Bury North”. To which all involved in activities in the area will be invited to exhibit.

Greenmount Old School – Community Centre Break-ins

Over the past two weeks we have had two break ins in the Old School. Damage was done to cupboard doors as they tried to find anything of value. A few small items were taken but nothing of much value – we never leave money in the building. If you do notice any dumped items likely to have come from the Old School please let me know where they are.

Please be aware that clearly there are people coming into Greenmount and trying door and windows and even willing to break a window to gain access to properties. On the first occasion it is possible that a door may have been left unlocked but on the second occasion a small window was broken to gain access.

Please, if you are walking past the Old School or driving past and notice any suspicious activity let me know. The police response to both incidents was excellent and when it was thought the intruders were still in the Old School the response was very quick.

Woodland Management

Folks,

Just a reminder that we are meeting up this Friday 3rd December at the Pre-School garden near Station Road in Greenmount at 10am. We will be continuing to do maintenance on the Lines as well as the annual leaf blowing and clearing of the pat from The Hub to Shepherd Street. I have attached a map with postcode of BL8 4BJ.

I hope you can join us, the weather forecast is 7 deg and gentle breeze and drizzle, so for now no reason to cancel.

All the best,

Alistair

Bury Pipeline ( Talking Newspaper ) Volunteers

Good Morning

Ian George, the Treasurer for our local talking newspaper, Bury Pipeline, is asking for help.

For the last 40 years volunteers at Bury Pipeline have recorded articles from The Bury Times for the blind and partially sighted.

They have recently restarted their recording activities following the pandemic. Unfortunately during this time they have lost some of their volunteers.

They are looking for help on Thursday pm/Fridays am, usually once a month for a couple of hours at Tottington Library ( on a 4 week rota basis). If anyone is interested, please contact Ian,  [email protected] and he can provide more information on the roles they are looking for help with.
