Dear All,
Just a note to keep you updated on things going on in the village.
Benches
As you will have noticed there have been lots of work taking place to provide more benches in Greenmount. As many people have enjoyed the outdoors and their local area over the past year, we feel it necessary to help provide a little rest and a chance to chat with each other.
Two benches are now at the top of the Lines which are in frequent use and one against the farm going down the lines. The GVC has plans to build more benches to provide extra seating to support those who wish to take a longer walk towards Tottington.
The benches are being funded by ourselves and through donations and these are being made by our very own Greenwood Group volunteers. I am sure you would agree with me that they are doing a fabulous job.
Cuppa and a Chat
We are now running these sessions on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons only.
If restrictions are lifted on 21st June, many of our clubs will be coming back to The Old School. This means giving up the rooms we have been using. As this has been a popular event we are hoping to continue to provide this service every Thursday. This will take place in a larger room and hopefully we will be able to have more visitors together and get back to some sort of normality.
These sessions could not take place without the support of all our wonderful voluntary helpers. Thank you everyone.
Plant and Yard Sale from 9am
A reminder that The Tottington Horticultural Society will be holding their annual plant sale on Saturday 5th June at The Old School. There will also be a yard sale at the same time.
Hope you are all enjoying the warmer weather.
Kind regards,
Julie Southworth
Dear All
Next year the council ward boundaries will be changing in Bury, this means that all 51 council seats in the 17 wards will be up for election.
Please find below a communication for the Local Government Boundary Commission covering a consultation on the draft recommendations for the ward boundaries in Bury.
Best Regards
Julie Southworth
![]() Have your say A consultation on draft recommendations for ward boundaries in Bury has begun ![]() Today we published draft recommendations for new wards, ward boundaries, and ward names for Bury. We are now inviting comments on those recommendations. Our consultation closes on 9 August 2021.If you represent a local organisation or community group in Bury, please pass this message on to your members or anyone you think who might be interested in the review. You can share the message by email or through social media by using the buttons at the bottom right of the page. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Have your say You can take part in the consultation by clicking the button at the top of this message or through our interactive consultation portal. Our website includes further information about the Commission and the review. We encourage everyone who has a view on the draft recommendations to contact us, whether you support them or whether you wish to propose alternative arrangements. We will consider every representation received during consultation, whether it is submitted by an individual, a local group or an organisation. We will weigh each submission against the legal criteria which we must follow when drawing up electoral arrangements:· to deliver electoral equality: where each councillor represents roughly the same number of electors as others across the borough;· that the pattern of wards should, as far as possible, reflect the interests and identities of local communities;· that the electoral arrangements should provide for effective and convenient local government. It is important that you take account of the criteria if you are suggesting an alternative pattern of wards. If you wish to put forward a view, we would also urge you to ensure that evidence supports your submission. For example, if you wish to argue that two areas should be included in the same electoral ward, make sure you tell us why they should be together, providing evidence about community facilities, ties, organisations, and amenities, rather than simply asserting that they belong together. Our website features technical guidance that explains the process and our policies, as well as guidance on how to take part in each part of the process. ![]() Get in touch We welcome comments on our draft recommendations by 9 August 2021. Representations should be made:- Through our interactive consultation portal, where you can explore the maps of the recommendations and make comments;- By email to [email protected];– Or in writing to Review Officer (Bury), Local Government Boundary Commission for England, PO BOX 133, Blyth, NE24 9FE |

Hi to you all,
Hope everyone is keeping safe and well. Please see some updates below which I hope are useful or of interest
COVID-19 and the various measures taken to manage the virus and protect us continue to impact everyone in Bury. You may have heard about the increasing covid infection rates in Bolton and elsewhere and you may have been asked questions in your community about this.
It is now more important than ever to ensure that Bury residents stay up to date with the latest guidance and advice, which aims to keep everyone as safe as possible, so Bury Council is recruiting some Covid-19 Community Champions. The COVID-19 Community Champion network is made up of volunteers from all areas of the borough who will help residents to stay up to date with the latest information about Covid-19.
What does a Community Champion do?
Bury Public Health will keep COVID-19 Community Champions informed of the latest advice and guidance, hold exclusive webinars and Q&A sessions and enable you to ask the Public Health Team questions. This will help your family, friends and other community members to make sense of the latest facts and guidance about the virus.
What we ask our COVID-19 Community Champions to do
We would like them to share this reliable and up to date COVID-19 information with anyone in their network- family, friends and community. By receiving trustworthy and clear information regularly, Bury residents will be able to make more informed choices, as we ensure the safety of the public and manage the pandemic.
Please note that being a COVID- 19 Community Champion is not an enforcement or regulatory role.
We would like you to consider becoming a Community Champion or asking people you know to join the network.
